Farewell Year 12 2017
13 years of education came to an end for our Year 12 class of 2017 on Monday September 18 with farewells from the Bethlehem College community.
The day commenced with a beautiful Eucharistic celebration created by Mrs Casey and Ms. Moodey, Year 12 Catholic Studies classes and the student Liturgy team also offered support. Large numbers of parents of the HSC Class of 2017 and the incoming 2018 SRC joined staff and students of the College as well as invited guests for a very appropriate farewell to our much loved Year 12s.
Adorning the altar was the beautiful altar cloth created by Year 12 students at their Leadership Day, arranged by Ashley Lieu, Michaela Albao and sewn together by Mrs. Coffey.
The mass was celebrated by Father Alan Gibson and the hall was filled with the sounds of angelic choir voices led by our talented Year 12 Music students and the Instrumental ensemble “Noteworthy” and coordinated by Mrs Bowyer, Mrs Oh and Ms Weier.
The Year 12 students sat with their Year 8 Little Sisters and they were later presented to the Leadership team, Ms Gay McKinley, President of the Ex-students’ Association, current teachers who are also ex students of the College and Sinead Kent the Family Educator of St Vincent’s Primary School and Year 6 students from St Vincent’s Primary. Each graduate was presented with important symbols of her education at the College, a prayer card from the Sisters of Charity, an Ex-student badge and gifts from Year 6 students at St Vincent’s Primary school.
The mass included the handing over of leadership roles from the 2017 SRC and Prefect body to the 2018 SRC, the commissioning, blessing and anointing of the new SRC and a very thoughtful address by Therese Kanaan the outgoing College President. The highlight of the liturgy was the blessing of the HSC Class of 2017 by a group of Year 6 girls (Yr 7 2018 Bethlehem students) from St Vincent’s Primary school.
The final assembly followed the liturgy where the Year 12 students demonstrated their amazing technology skills , performing arts talents and great sense of fun by entertaining the community with their satirical reflections on life in Years 7-11 using ideas from popular TV shows.
In the evening the celebrations then moved to The Georgian Room at Lemnos Club where the students and their families enjoyed a beautiful formal dinner before the presentation of awards and certificates of graduation. Students were recognised for their outstanding achievement in areas such as: academia, sport and leadership. A number of externally sponsored awards and perpetual trophies were also presented including a new award sponsored by recently retired Bethlehem College teacher, Mrs Sheenagh O’Brien. The evening concluded with the presentation of Certificates of Graduation to the HSC Class of 2017.
