Bethlehem College Athletics Carnival 2017
On the 13th of June Bethlehem College held its Annual Athletics Carnival at the Athletics Competition Arena at Homebush. The following are some students’ thoughts on the day:
“This year was the first time the College travelled to the venue via train, it was a successful and exciting experience to bond with our house colours. The day started off with a bang as the events commenced and the atmosphere and house spirit was vibrant. With the help of senior students and teachers, the field and track events ran smoothly and efficiently. The participation level amongst each age group and house colour were constantly rising throughout the day as girls engaged with the activities. On the field, girls were proud to earn points for their houses and were competing to the sounds of encouraging housemates. The spirit was contagious demonstrating an eventful day in which students were able to relax, have fun and participate with friends. “

“From the moment we boarded the Bethlehem train, bound for Sydney Olympic Park, you could feel this year would be different. Every student was happy and the mood was high. House spirit was on display through the day. Girls were genuinely happy for their friends races even if they were in a different house. The atmosphere was great.
The track events went smoothly and this year we fitted in the relays- a crowd favourite. The field events were just as exciting as girls jumped dizzying heights at high jump or hurled themselves metres into a sand pit. Loads of volunteers recorded or timed these events. The javelin throwers defied distance and it was spectacular to watch.
Every participant enjoyed the mild sunny day. To have this opportunity to compete in an Olympic venue cannot be underestimated. Beyond school, not many of us will ever have the chance again. We are very lucky.
The teachers were happy and the cheers were loud. I think the smiles on everyone’s face summed up the day. A success.”
