In an earlier newsletter, Mrs Casey and I wrote about the generosity of our Year 11 Eurella team who volunteer each Thursday afternoon at Eurella Community Services, Burwood to work with people with intellectual and physical disabilities. I nominated the team for the Wests Ashfield Community Spirit Awards in the Secondary Teams division.
The team were then invited to a rigorous interview in front of a judging panel comprising representatives from the Club. Following the interview, the girls were announced as one of three finalists in the Secondary Teams division and three of the team, Ms Pasion and I were invited to attend the awards ceremony and luncheon on Tuesday, August 22. They joined other finalists from the Primary and Secondary Individual and teams divisions as well as other recipients of Club grants.
In a very strong field, the Eurella team were announced as the winners of the Secondary Teams division. The College received a $3,000 grant to continue its social justice work and Eurella Community Services received $500 for their work. We are incredibly proud of their achievements. The girls have also inspired other Year 11 students to become additional volunteers for the program.
We were also very proud of members of the On the Block Band: Meghan, Rose, Sophia, Emma, Sarah and Nicholas (DLS) who were invited to perform at the event under the direction of Mr. Howes.
